  1. Resolved Question: Is TRUE Socialism dead?
  2. 23 May 2008 at 2:18pm
It seems that the Tories are greasing their way back into power, the liberals are worthy only of mockery, the far right are goose stepping into the hearts and minds of the electorate and Labour has become a dirty word. Do you think we need true Socialists back?

http://www.openmarket.org/2008/05/23/fingerprint-registry-in-housin g-bill/ We can't request an ID when you vote; however the moron stting across the table from you telling you where to sign for your mortgages must be finger printed. Shouldn't we be finger printing the idiots who signed for loans they could not afford and are now defaulting on? (Please don't blame evil Big Mortgage, it takes 2 to tango and the accounts of true criminal activity among lenders is very low and not statistically relevant.) Also please remember that the total amount of mortgages being defaulted on is about 1 - 1.5% of the total american mortgages. When will america realize that the liberals policy of reacting to a problem instead of being proactive will only sink this country further into the fascist socialism? Ruby- Seriously! Please provide facts to support you accusations. Every loan offered must provide a details of when the different rates take affect. If what you said is true, please so how many loans this applies to. A democratically controlled congress (where the bill was originated) with a republican president (who will try to vetoe it). Joe - So what you are saying is that you took personal responsibilty for your loan and did it right. Those people who did not care to read the fine print should then also take responsibilty for their actions and re-fi or sell. Why should my tax dollars pay for their house, why can't it pay for my own house. How often do car dealerships care if the car you are buying is too big or over priced. NEVER. They just want you to buy, because then it is your responibilty. Same thing in the home loan market.

  8. 23 May 2008 at 10:51am
is the solution? Is it goat-pulled carts? Because there is NO WAY the US economy can totally transition off oil without irreparably destroying the economy. Food shipments, just look at that effect, on prices, delivery, farming, all that equipment. What does he expect, semis pulled by Shetland ponies? We must drill our own oil and now. Infrastructure investment begins the day you start. The Democrats WILL NOT ALLOW oil development or even another refinery to be built, in the meanwhile China and India are tittering with laughter over Al Gore and his idiocy (which is merely a ploy for socialism). Supply and demand economics will force up the price continually until there's sufficient alternatives. The Democrats also fight nuclear power all of the time. Are they trying to get Americans to second world living status in grass huts? India and China and Pakistan are burgeoning oil-dependent industrial economies and they are sniffing out oil everywhere, even off our own coastline slant drilling by Cuba. The experts state the transition off of oil will take a long time, even if it's fostered and encouraged. There's more than CARS that require oil!! The democrats won't even allow clean burning coal (where they bury the CO2 underground).

  15. Resolved Question: Do you deserve to be paid more?
  16. 22 May 2008 at 3:11pm
Do you believe that you deserve to be paid more if you take the time, and made the investment (money and time) to get a college degree or learn a marketable trade (electrician/plumber/mechanic)? Do you think that a person who risks his last penny to start a business deserves to make more than the person he hires to work for him and risks NOTHING out of his own pocket? Do you believe that you deserve an A if you study hard and answer all the test questions right? Ergo, do you believe the "class clown" deserves to fail if he partied all night and never studied for his test? Answer YES to any of these, and you are fundementally a CONSERVATIVE. If you accept that effort=reward, and skill=value.... how can you PRETEND to support Liberal ideas that reek of socialism? You are either ONE or the other... If you think you can answer YES and then justify liberal positions, I want to hear that argument.

  17. Resolved Question: Have you ever heard it put this way?
  18. 22 May 2008 at 1:52pm
OK, I admit it. I believe in Capitalism. But a question was asked why Americans were so against socialism and an answer was given,"We should help our fellow man out of love and charity, not because the government puts a gun in our face; that's called extortion." I had never thought of it that way. Socialism with government does it IS legalised extortion. Give me your money or I break your kneecaps, opps that should have been, I'll throw you in jail AND take your money. I'll pay my taxes (won't like it but I'll pay them) but I won't be like a frog in a pan of water that is slowly brought to a boil.

  28. 22 May 2008 at 12:43am
Let's be realistic here. People who go around yelling "socialist" and "marxist" at everything have to realize that no country on the planet has ever been, or could ever be completly non-socialist. Our Marine corp is the best in the world, and they are an entirely publicly funded ( socialized ) institution. They cost a fraction of what private armies like blackwater do. Some things are simply more efficiently done by all of us working together. What is it that prevents us from seeing this? What is it that makes us think that our very national defense does not fit the definition of a "socialist" institution? Do people even know what they are saying when they say that all socialism is bad?

  33. Resolved Question: Government System for the People?
  34. 21 May 2008 at 1:41pm
So far it seems there is no successful system of government serving the people's need. Can there really be such a system and would it really work? Can there be a system that prevents crime, feeds every citizen, maintains a level of employment, heightens safety standards of housing and workplaces, and actually enforces the laws that need to be in place? A government system is perfect until people are involved. Is that true? Is communism the way to go? Democracy? Socialism? Ideas on politics and theories about it. Should the people rise up and take control over the nation that is rightfully theirs? Should we start to care and actually step up to the plate to change the country? Is the system flawed? Try to avoid short answers.

  41. Resolved Question: Why is American going Socialist at the same time Europe is...
  42. 21 May 2008 at 7:32am
According to the press Obama will be the next president. Since he has a Socialist agenda, why is the US going toward Socialism when the rest of the world especially Europe is voting Socialists out of office? Look at France, Germany, and Great Britain who are probably America's strongest allies. Socialism has failed in those countries and one would think Americans would look and see how it has failed wherever it has been implemented. It has destroyed the middle class leaving the privileged rich and the poor who were once in the middle. As Associated Press article stated that the Labour Party rule will be over soon in the UK as the Conservatives have enough votes to vote the Labour party out. Countries in Scandanavia do not have illegal immigrants and Norway's population is 1/100 that of the US and they have huge oil profits from North Sea oil. Tax rates there are ultra high. My sister lives in Germany. When her baby was born she was sent home from the hospital less than 18 hours after the baby was born plus she says health care in the US is better than there. Maybe the pendulum there is different and everyone everywhere wants change. A 70% tax bracket nonetheless is not attractive to me. In terms of the government doing everything for everyone, Obama is a socialist. He writes in his books where he favors a Socialist government in the US.

I realize taxes suck, and MOST of you worked hard to earn your money....but just because someone is on welfare, does that make them less of an American?...it just seems to me sometimes that Conservatives are very patriotic when it doesn't cost them anything.....they have no problem putting our nation in debt to keep the Iraq war going....but when someone suggests a tax hike to help feed people, or fix up a school, or help a kid get healthcare....they start screaming about Socialism....and that Liberals want to take all of their money away.....Blah,blah,blah.....What do you guys think?

  52. 20 May 2008 at 2:30pm
Would you stand up for freedom, as opposed to submitting to socialism? This link is to a video of an event that happened in China before many of the visitors to this blog were born. Students in Bejing had been protesting on behalf of freedom. The government decided to use force to put down the protests. This video shows how far one student was willing to go to oppose socialism. Would you be willing to go that far to stand up for freedom? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzeGbhulEfc

As I understand it, please correct me if I'm wrong, both systems hold the will and best interests of the majority of The People as the foudation for any and all government decisions. The fact that the Soviet Union under Stalin and the U.S. under Bush are examples totalitarian oligarchies should not be used to undermine the validity of either socialism or democracy in theory. Would you agree that a government in service to The People might be used to describe socialism or democracy while The People in service to the government is tyrany?

  58. 20 May 2008 at 8:02am
One of the most destructive forces in Society is political correctness. It has given a platform to people for any reason to step up and cry and complain. As opposed to, handiling the problem within there own structure and moving on. Today we hide behind political correctness, for it makes those who do feel like there empowered by some invisable weak army of other losers who dont have the back bone to stand up to the problem. It reeks of socialism and liberal teachings. And has made this country weak. Look at Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, Howard Dean. all users of some form of political correctness. However they use it as a weapon and a tool. They use it to funnel fear down through the masses, to unite the faithful against a non present enemy. What you think America. does PC work for you.

  60. 20 May 2008 at 3:21am
Von Mises and others tended to assume socialism was a centrally planned economy. But the answer to the economic calculation argument depends on socialism being a decentralised non market system of production. It seems that critics of socialism had Russian state capitalism in mind when classical socialism really meant something quite different http://www.cvoice.org/cv3cox.htm

  62. 20 May 2008 at 2:01am
I want to keep an open mind and I am certain that every book I read affects my way of thought so I want to know the opposite of every book I've read. Let's say Ayn Rand's books since they teach about individualism and it's importance, I want to read a book that is about the complete opposite hence socialism and the unimportance of individuals. (There is no definite answer to this question, just name a book that exhibits the exact opposite of the theme of the books I've listed.) What are the opposites of these books?: "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess "

Hhhhmmmm.... David Duke is bad because he was a former leader of the KKK, ok, I would never trust anyone who supported the KKK. Well, our West Va senator, Sen Byrd is a former member of the KKK, he has endorsed Obama, but should this matter? I guess if Duke is bad & Byrd is good; Nixon's abuse of power was bad and the Clintons was good; Packwood's sexual harrassment was bad and Clintons's was good; outing a CIA admin worker was bad BUT sHrillery's goons stealing 900 FBI files to use against political rivals was good, hhhmmm... actually I think all wrong doing is bad, not just when its committed by someone who I politically oppose has done it. Why should anyone care who Byrd supports? Does this mean any former member of the KKK can be forgiven if he supports socialism? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080519/ap_on_el_pr/obama_byrd;_ylt=AiYQbJNQRmE.gl7Rao42P aFh24cA rollo- wrong Duke did renounce his past but only Byrd is forgiven by the liberal media, could it be, its because Byrd is carrying the socialist flag?

Conservative Christians all know that the Republican Party is literally in bed with greedy corporate businesses, so why do many of them vote Republican? Besides being against abortion and gay marriage, what is "christian" about the Republican Party? Why focus on the morality of individuals and not on business? Why does business get a free pass to sin? *Also, Liberal Christians know the Democratic party does not get a pass either, there politicians sleep with greedy big business also. I'll save them for a another discussion. Christians should be voting for Ralph Nader, who is willing to fight the sin of greedy Big Business. Also, he wants to instill morality in politics. I know he is for abortion and gay marriage....bear with me, noone is perfect. - Hey Craig, Saying Nader is an idiot tells me you know very little about him and his life. Hey there! I was wondering, you know all those people that wear the Che Guevara shirts and stuff? I know most don't even know his name, but there are some that do know and wear it because they embrace / relate to socialism and all. So I was wondering, is there an imperialist / capitalist counterpart to the Che Guevara icon? 88. 18 May 2008 at 3:36pm
Even kool-aid drinking liberals know Ted Kennedy has led a horrific and shameful personal life. Leaving a woman to die under water, to check into a hotel to sober up & next morning asking "what's up?" The Kennedy family paid off everyone to preserve the black sheep son of Irish mafia bootleggers. Ted is an alcoholic, hard drug abuser, serial adulterer and womanizer, covered up his nephew's rape (taking a page from Hillary's book) to side with the predator and attack the victim. Ted has backed and covertly supported the IRA, murderous terrorists. He is most well known for increasing the hourly wage of high school students. Well, enough about Ted's qualifications to lead the democratic party. I have asked MASS citizens why they re-elect this reprobate, most common response, except socialism- Ted brings way more than our share of Federal money, to the state of MASS. Do all MASS voters that have re-elected this cretin owe the rest of us an apology for Ted?

  89. Resolved Question: Why do "neoconservatives" pretend they hate socialism?
  90. 18 May 2008 at 3:26pm
. . . when it's obvious they are pro-socialism? As an example, let?s look at their stance on energy and transportation. >neocons support the government monopoly on roads in urban areas. And they actively oppose any form of urban mass transit, such as trolleys, subways, etc. Despite the fact that these technologies can be operated as private companies, which roads really can?t. >the neocons oppose alternative energy technologies or any support for developing them. Instead, they continue to support the monopoly status and subsidies to oil and coal companies. That?s NOT supporting the free market they claim to uphold. >neocons even whine about the competition offered by things like CFLs (compact florescent lights). Why don?t they want a competing technology on the market that is clearly better and cheaper (other than the fact it cuts into the revenues of the fossil fuel monopoly)? Now, that?s just the enrgy/transportation industry. We could take a look at their support for programs to hand taxpayer money to (their) churches for ?public services.? Clearly, that is socialist. >Then there?s their advocy of granting insurance companies monopolies on Medicare insurance, instead of opening it up to market competition (did you know about that oene?) >or their policy of excluding independent living providers from competing to provide services (which are better and cheaper, incidentally) thereby giving the nursing home industry a protected market (i.e., a monopoly). I coud go on. Quite frankly, while I recognize that some services in a modern economy have to be socialized, I don?t like socialism. That?s one reason I?m a Democrat?because, while the Democrats also have an agenda that involves unneeded socialist programs, its far less IN FACT than the right-wing version. And at least the Democrats are honest about what they are doing. So?excuse the long commentary?this is a serious question: WHY do the ?conservatives? today pretend they are anti-socialist?

  97. Resolved Question: How is Hugo Chavez a bad guy?
  98. 17 May 2008 at 11:14pm
Okay, so I'm like 14 and they don't teach us much about this in school, so pardon me if I'm not to knowledgable about any of this... Anyhoo, why does everyone hate him? Is this just another case of some inane and greedy americans feeling threatened by a socialist system that fights greed? Or is he actually a bad guy? Personally, I don't like socialism or communism too much but they kick capitalism in the ass! So is the only reason he is hated that he is socialist? I know there is a totalitarian regime, which habitually sucks, but if he is doing a good job then... Yeah, I am so lost. Help me out please. What state is Venezuela in under his regime? To respond to whoever asked, I prefer soc/com because I would give up the "nice roof over my head" and anything else material if it meant that we were all equal financially. You don't get it, you should see Cuba. People there have PASSION for what they do because they are not working for a paycheck. If you don't feel the same and can't give up your materialistic BS then you're just a selfish, voracious biggot! No offense, I mean.< >
